Markdown to PDF with maths, diagrams and wide tables

Convert Markdown to a clean, paginated PDF with typeset formulas, Mermaid diagrams, page numbers and automatic landscape pages for wide tables. No LaTeX install needed.

Make a PDF from the exampleUpdated

Step by step

  1. Paste or open your Markdown.
  2. Choose the page size and theme. Tick Contents for a table of contents.
  3. Check the preview. It shows the real page width, so what fits there fits in the PDF.
  4. Click Download PDF.

What a good Markdown PDF needs

Printing a Markdown preview from the browser gives you a PDF, but usually a poor one: tables cut off at the margin, diagrams missing, maths as raw LaTeX and no page numbers. A document PDF needs proper pagination, so Mathfold builds the pages first and prints them after.

  • Typeset maths: every formula is rendered with proper fonts, in any common delimiter style.
  • Diagrams: Mermaid code blocks are drawn and scaled to the page.
  • Wide tables: measured before placement, then given a landscape page, a smaller font or column groups as needed.
  • Page furniture: page numbers, a title block from front matter and an optional table of contents.
  • Page sizes: A4, Letter, A5, A3 and Legal.

Mixed orientation in one PDF

This is the part most converters skip. Below, the 14-column table of numbers still fits a portrait page because the numbers are narrow, so Mathfold leaves it there. A nine-column table full of words would not fit, so it gets its own landscape page:

You paste
| Vessel | 0 | 5 | 10 | 15 | 20 | 25 | 30 |
|:---|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| Ceramic office mug | 85 | 76 | 68 | 62 | 56 | 51 | 47 |
| Steel thermos | 85 | 84 | 83 | 82 | 81 | 80 | 79 |
Mathfold makes
Vessel 0 5 10 15 20 25 30
Ceramic office mug 85 76 68 62 56 51 47
Steel thermos 85 84 83 82 81 80 79

The decision is made per table, from the measured width of its content, so a document can switch to landscape and back as often as it needs to.

Questions

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?

Yes. The PDF contains real text, not images of pages, so you can search it, copy from it and a screen reader can read it.

Do I need LaTeX installed?

No. Formulas are typeset on Mathfold's servers. You only need a browser.

Does the PDF match the Word file?

Yes, both come from the same layout plan: same fonts, same table widths, same landscape pages. Use Word when someone has to edit, PDF when it must look identical everywhere.

Can I mix portrait and landscape pages?

That happens automatically. A table or diagram that is too wide gets a landscape page, and the document continues in portrait after it.
